In our neighborhood we listen, we respect and we respond. When we see our neighbors in need we make these needs known to our community of volunteers - people from across the city who want to give and serve – and together we meet needs. Our volunteers may not live in this neighborhood but they want to be neighbors to those in need. Some of these needs may seem small and touch only one individual, like a child needing glasses. Some needs are larger, serving groups of people like providing showers, haircuts and food to the homeless, providing camaraderie and a meeting space for local veterans or providing a sense of strength and togetherness for families with addictions.
With over 3,000 square feet of meeting space, including 2 smaller meeting rooms and a 3,000 square foot warehouse, we invite local service groups interested in using our facility for meetings, events, and service projects to contact us at 929-256-2820. You may also make a facility booking request by clicking on the Facility Request Form at the top of this page. You may not see needs in your own neighborhood, but we see needs in ours. Join us and be neighbors with us. It’s easy – find where you fit. Just help your neighbor!

Many of these groups were in attendance and each was given time to share about their service program. This offered a wonderful opportunity for non-profits to meet and discuss collaboration opportunities. Special entertainment was provided by the Hazel Green FFA String Band.
The Livin’ Room is excited about our church and non-profit partnerships as we look forward to 2022. We provided an overview of our planned facility upgrades designed to meet the needs of our growing service activities and requested input from our partners on additional needs. Our most critical upgrades for 2022 are:
Expand our Bathrooms
Upgrade Kitchen and Kitchen Area
Install HVAC System in Warehouse (Supporting Shower-Up in Winter/Youth Camps Summer)
Configure Additional Training Rooms
Configure Pavilion Area
Expand Storage
Add Signage
Any donations toward these upgrades would be greatly appreciated!

WHO WE ARE
Bringing Neighbors Together From Across the City
The Livin’ Room is an all volunteer 501(c)(3) organization. Our objective is inclusion. This is seen in our programs, our volunteers as well as our Board of Directors who come from a wide variety of backgrounds and careers in Huntsville and North Alabama. The Livin’ Room is a local 100% volunteer service center where those with needs are honored and aided in a caring, neighborhood-like way. Our facility at 2820 Governor’s drive is at a crossroads of a community with needs and a new generation of volunteers. As important as it is to help those in need, we believe developing a new generation of volunteers is also vital to our community. We connect caring people with specific local service and resource needs to help our neighbors. Service projects vary in size from a few hours a quarter to several hours per week and donation drives small enough for student groups or large enough for businesses. We work with neighborhood children, veterans, parent support groups, the homeless as well as provide neighborhood life-skill training. We are partnered with local government through the Huntsville Housing Authority and work with numerous local non-profits including the Seminole Drive Boys and Girls Club, Bearded Warriors and Huntsville Good Samaritans. Our service center is also used by churches and charity groups as a staging area and point of outreach for service projects.

Upcoming Events

PARTNERING WITH OTHER NON-PROFITS
The Livin’ Room has an ongoing partnership with ShowerUp Huntsville with events taking place every 2nd & 4th Sundays of the month. These events serve and honor our neighbors with free showers, haircuts, chiropractic care, and a meal.

LOCAL RESOURCE
Our next door neighbors at the Huntsville Seminole Boys and Girls Clubs asked the Livin’ Room if we could help out with a back-to-school drive for their students called “Got Your Back-Pack”. The Livin’ Room presented this need request to our volunteers and they responded and provided 150 backpacks all in different colors. We have developed a strong relationship with these neighbors sharing resources and facilities during this summer

Star Power at the Livin' Room! NFL and Alabama Football's Siran Stacy Had a Fantastic Message for All on Sunday July 4th!
Siran Stacy was born and raised in Southeast Alabama. All-American tail back at The University of Alabama (1989-1991) and 2nd round draft choice by The Philadelphia Eagles. However the year 2007 brought about tragic life changing circumstances to him when nearly his entire family was killed by a drunk driver. Instead of withdrawing, this horrific event propelled Stacy closer to God and in June of 2008 he entered into full-time Ministry.
Stacy brought a powerful uplifting and motivational message to all regulars and visitors of the 2820 9:00 AM Church Service that meets at the Livin' Room on Sunday mornings. He and his family were a joy to have and we hope will be a regular speaker at The Livin' Room.
The Livin' Room Wrapped Up Hosting our first Middle School Summer Growth Camp!
A Big Thanks to April Bodie, her Team and the Inner City Learning Center. Over five weeks 19 students were exposed to all things growth following the life of Joseph and saw the Lord take him from pit to Palace from famine to feast.
The kids grew their mind mathematically weekly with different in applicable techniques and terms on Mondays. They grew financial literacy by learning the ins and outs good and bad about money. They learned about five amazing careers and have some of Huntsville top businesses give us the history of their companies. The kids got their hands dirty and sticky on green days making jelly, salsa, juicing, painting pictures and going to Green Street market. We all grew personal confidence learning how to speak on cue and how to follow subtle cues, gauge your audience to know where to take situations and conversation with Improv from Fantasy Playhouse. The kids gained knowledge how to be a better person with the Five Uncommon Courtesies from the book "I GOT 5 ON IT" by April Bodie. And last but certainly not least daily we helped the kids navigate their emotions so they can operate with emotional intelligence and know how to assign the proper emotion to each situation.

How You Can Help
2021 has been a very challenging year for all of us as well as non-profits and The Livin’ Room. While we have grown this year, the cancellation of many fundraising events has impacted our budget significantly. Our year-end elevated needs are donations to support:
1. Configuring our warehouse area for a much needed Homeless services area for this winter to expand our Shower-Up Services
2. Expanding and equipping new classroom and child-care areas – essential for our training, education and counseling efforts
To learn more please contact Randy Fowler (info@thelivinroomhsv.org or 929-256-2820) and we can get you information on how you can be a part!
